Learning Names

I can't bring my camera to placement until the end of my time here because it just becomes too much of a distraction. So I only have stories for now! These children speak a language called ixosa. This is a click language and I love listening to their little voices do things that are so hard for me to do! We are getting ixosa lessons here at the home base so I've learned very basic things that I use with them. I've learned how to tell them my name and ask what theirs is, and this is something that has been my biggest struggle; learning their names. There are so many of them and I want so desparately to know each of them individudally. It is just really hard to remember all of them and especially when they are sounds and names I've never heard before in my life! I want them to remember me and know me so bad, so I've been trying to teach them my name when I can. It is so cute to hear them say my name with thier little accent. I was holding one girl yesterday and teaching her my name. She would touch my chest and say "Karli", then touch her own chest and say "Alutia". She would repeat this over and over and just smile and look at me with her huge eyes! It made me so happy today when I was with her, because she came up to me and touched my chest again and said "Karli", then pointed to herself and said "Alutia". It made my day!
